Answers to Fan Questions

What is your favorite Caribbean Island?
My favorite island is Martinique. I love the French influence and the people are incredibly friendly, happily accepting dogs. You can tell from the part of Caribbean Treasure about our experiences there that is was really a fun place. Great food, cheap wine, great shopping ,and really charming places to visit throughout the island. We could have stayed there for months if we didn’t have to get to Puerto Rico before hurricane season.
What was your most frightening sailing experience?
When we first went to the Grenadines to learn how to sail in challenging conditions, Hurricane Lenny struck. Our instructor had just turned the boat over to us and we were on our own. It wasn’t a direct hit, but we were sailing in twenty-foot seas and encountering sixty-knot winds. The storm hit the lee side of the islands. It destroyed buildings and boat docks, and washed many boats ashore. This experience is also included in Caribbean Treasure. It almost persuaded us to give up the dream of buying a boat and sailing for years. But, when we came back through Miami and went to the boat show we fell in love with a 38’ catamaran and ordered ours from France on the spot.
Is Lee Storm your real name?
No. My career as a public official made it prudent to use a pen name. I chose Lee Storm based on the experience with Hurricane Lenny. A storm that hits the lee side of the island makes a huge impact, which is what I hope to do with my writing.
How long does it take to write a book?
Most of my writing is done in spurts, so that’s a hard question to answer. I have written three books in the past three years, but I have also worked at regular jobs during that time. If I just sat down and wrote three to five days a week, it would take about three months to write a book, and then another three months to get through the publishing process.
